生平與著作

Kirzner 是一位拉比兼塔木德學者之子，出生於倫敦。他自1940年起居於開普敦，並自1947年起在開普敦大學就讀，同時作為校外生在倫敦大學修讀。1954年於 Brooklyn College 取得文學士學位後，他在 New York University（NYU）完成學業，於1955年取得工商管理碩士、1957年取得博士學位。在 NYU，他曾師從 Ludwig von Mises 等人。自1954年起，他在 NYU 擔任不同職位，並於1968年最終獲授教席。直至2001年退休為止，NYU 一直開設一個秉承奧地利學派傳統的學習課程，由他與 Ludwig Lachmann 合作主持，培養出眾多經濟學家，這些人或自視為學派成員，或深受其啟發。Kirzner 在 Market Theory and the Price System（《市場理論與價格制度》，1963）以及 Methodological Individualism, Market Equilibrium and Market Process（《方法論個人主義、市場均衡與市場過程》，1967）中，發展出一套市場與企業家理論，借助企業家的行為來解釋一國經濟趨向均衡的內生傾向。Kirzner 認為，企業家的特出之處在於其獨特的「alertness」（警覺性），使他能夠察覺價格差異，從而發現市場中的協調缺陷。利潤動機隨後引導企業家發揮協調的作用。Kirzner 把企業家視為「發現者」的理論，至今仍被視為具開創性。
