Friedrich August von Hayek was a professor at the University of Freiburg here from 1962 until his retirement in 1968, and one of the students he taught was Roland Baader. After his unsatisfying time in Salzburg, he returned to the Breisgau in 1977 and spent the last years of his life there. Eugen Philippovich von Philippsberg taught at the University of Freiburg at the end of the nineteenth century, first as an extraordinary and later as an ordinary professor. Hans Mayer worked at the University of Freiburg from 1912 to 1914 as an extraordinary professor.
