After his London years in growing academic isolation, Hayek's chair in Chicago was attached to the “Committee on Social Thought”. He was thus able to move increasingly away from the terrain of narrowly economic research, which suited his interests well. Hayek subsequently turned to the study of the legal and institutional conditions of a free society.
